The first joint exploratory meeting between the Laboratory of Intracellular Ion Channels of the Nencki Institute, headed by Prof. Adam Szewczyk, and the Department of Physics and Biophysics, Institute of Biology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW), headed by Prof. Piotr Bednarczyk, took place 18th November at SGGW in Warsaw. The meeting was also attended by the principal investigators of projects carried out in our group – dr. hab. Piotr Koprowski, professor of Nencki Institute and dr. hab. Bogusz Kulawiak.
The event brought together both laboratories to discuss current research and foster closer scientific collaboration.
The main topic of the meeting was ion channels, with a particular focus on mitochondrial potassium channels, intracellular ion transport, and the biophysical mechanisms that regulate metabolism and cellular signaling. Researchers and PhD students from both laboratories presented their latest findings, exchanged methodological experience, and explored new avenues for collaborative work with common grants.
On the hosts’ side, the following researchers gave their presentations: dr. Beata Dworakowska, dr. Anna Sekrecka-Belniak, Gabriela Węglińska, Sandra Jaworowska, Agata Kustra, Artur Wardaszka and Jakub Hoser.
From the Laboratory of Intracellular Ion Channels, the following researchers presented their work: dr. Monika Żochowska, dr. Milena Szafraniec, dr. Jan Daniluk, Natalia Roszkowska, Natalia Stachowiak and Karolina Pytlak.
This gathering marks the beginning of a deeper cooperation between the two groups, aiming to strengthen joint research activities, provide training opportunities for young scientists, and advance the study of intracellular and mitochondrial ion channels. Next meeting will take place Spring 2026.
