The 5th International TRP Meeting in Leuven, Belgium

From September 17th to 20th, the Belgian city of Leuven was once again home to the International TRP Meeting. The event, held there every five years since 2005, aims to gather researchers from around the world to discuss the biology, structure, and medical relevance of transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels. The meeting was organized by the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) and chaired by Prof. Thomas Voets of the VIB–KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research.

Held in the renowned and historic Great Beguinage of Leuven, the event included keynote lectures, symposia, and over 70 posters, all covering topics ranging from TRP channel structural conformations and intrinsically disordered regions to their involvement in neuronal signaling and human diseases. Highlights included presentations on novel structural insights into TRPM4, TRPM3, and TRPA1, new findings on the activity-dependent action of TRPV1 modulators, as well as roles of TRP channels in pathologies such as addiction, migraine, tropical diseases, peripheral neuropathies, and cancer.

Dr. Jan Daniluk represented the Laboratory of Intracellular Ion Channels at the TRP Meeting, where he presented a poster titled “Evaluation of the role of TRPM3 and TRPV1 in thermal hypersensitivity induced by local inflammation and mild burn injury”, describing the findings of his yet unpublished study, conducted jointly with colleagues from the group of Prof. Voets.

At the Laboratory of Intracellular Ion Channels we always look forward to expanding our international network, strengthening collaborations, and contributing to the advancement of ion channel research to better understand their involvement in cellular signaling and their relevance to human health.
