The 22nd European Bioenergetics Conference (EBEC2024) held in Innsbruck, Austria, from August 26th to 31st, was a remarkable event that brought together 501 participants from 44 countries.
Poland was well-represented with 15 participants, including three members from our Laboratory. Joanna Lewandowska presented an insightful poster titled “Straight from the Heart – Infrared Light Regulation of Mitochondrial Large Conductance Ca2+Activated Potassium Channel Activity in Cardiomyocytes of Guinea Pig”. Karolina Pytlak contributed with a poster on “Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells Lacking the BKCa Channel”. A highlight of the conference was the lecture by Bogusz Kulawiak. His talk, “Mitochondrial Potassium Channels: New Properties and Functions”, captivated the audience and sparked engaging discussions.
EBEC2024 was not only an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in bioenergetics but also a chance to reconnect with old friends and make new connections. The event was a testament to the vibrant and collaborative spirit of the bioenergetics community.
Our visit was supported by the Polish National Science Centre (MAESTRO grant No. 2019/34/A/NZ1/00352 and OPUS grant No. 2019/35/B/NZ1/02546).
